Accessibility Statement
Last updated: 27 January 2026 • Version 1.0
1. Our Commitment
We believe property information should be accessible to everyone.
Property Passport UK is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience and applying the relevant accessibility standards to ensure we provide equal access to information and functionality.
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and improve usability for all users.
Accessibility is an ongoing commitment. As we develop new features and enhance existing ones, we strive to maintain and improve accessibility across the platform.
2. Scope
This accessibility statement applies to the Property Passport UK web application, accessible at propertypassport.uk.
This includes both public-facing pages (such as property search and public property passports) and authenticated user areas (dashboards, property management, and administrative interfaces).
This statement does not cover third-party content or services that may be linked from our platform.
3. Conformance Status
Current Status: Partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA
"Partially conformant" means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard. Property Passport UK is in active development, and while we have implemented many accessibility features, not all components and workflows have been comprehensively audited or tested for full conformance.
We are working to address known accessibility issues and conduct more thorough testing. Our goal is to achieve full WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance and to maintain that standard as the platform evolves.
Note: This platform has not yet undergone an independent accessibility audit. We plan to commission a formal audit in 2026 to validate our conformance claims and identify areas for improvement.
4. Accessible Features
We have implemented the following accessibility features across the Property Passport UK platform:
- Keyboard Navigation: All interactive elements can be accessed and operated using a keyboard alone, without requiring a mouse.
- Skip-to-Content Link: A "Skip to main content" link is available at the top of each page for keyboard and screen reader users.
- Semantic HTML Structure: Pages use proper heading hierarchy (h1, h2, h3) and semantic HTML5 elements to convey structure and meaning.
- Colour Contrast: Text and interactive elements meet WCAG 2.1 AA colour contrast ratios (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text and UI components).
- Form Labels and Instructions: All form inputs have associated labels, and required fields are clearly marked with instructions.
- ARIA Landmarks and Labels: ARIA landmarks (navigation, main, complementary) and labels are used to help screen readers identify page regions and understand interactive components.
- Responsive Design: The interface adapts to different screen sizes and supports text resizing up to 200% without loss of functionality.
- Screen Reader Support: Core user flows (search, login, property viewing, dashboard navigation) have been tested with screen readers and include appropriate ARIA attributes.
- Focus Indicators: Visible focus indicators are provided for all interactive elements to aid keyboard navigation.
- Alternative Text: Images that convey information include descriptive alternative text; decorative images are marked appropriately.
5. Known Limitations
Despite our efforts, we are aware of the following accessibility limitations. We are actively working to address these issues:
- Complex Data Visualisations: Some charts, graphs, and the property completion ring visualisation may not be fully accessible to screen reader users. We are working on providing text-based alternatives and more comprehensive ARIA descriptions.
- PDF Exports: Property passport PDFs generated by the platform may not be fully tagged for accessibility. Screen reader users may experience difficulty navigating these documents. We plan to implement tagged PDF generation in a future release.
- Third-Party Components: Some third-party components and integrations (such as map services) may have limited accessibility support. We are evaluating alternative solutions and working with vendors where possible.
- Real-Time Updates: Some real-time notifications and dynamic content updates may not be announced to screen readers. We are implementing ARIA live regions to improve this experience.
- Complex Tables: Some data-heavy tables (such as transaction history or property comparison views) may be difficult to navigate with screen readers. We are exploring improved table structures and alternative presentations.
If you encounter an accessibility barrier not listed here, please let us know using the contact details below.
6. Testing and Evaluation
We use a combination of manual and automated testing methods to evaluate the accessibility of Property Passport UK:
Manual Testing
- Screen Reader Testing: We test core user journeys with VoiceOver (macOS/iOS) to ensure screen reader users can navigate and interact with the platform.
- Keyboard-Only Navigation: All interactive elements and workflows are tested using keyboard navigation alone (Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Space, Arrow keys).
- Zoom and Text Resizing: We verify that content remains usable and readable when zoomed to 200% or when browser text size is increased.
Automated Testing
- axe-core: We use the axe accessibility testing engine to identify common accessibility issues during development and in our continuous integration pipeline.
- Lighthouse: Google Lighthouse accessibility audits are run regularly to catch issues with contrast, ARIA usage, and semantic HTML.
- ESLint Plugins: We use eslint-plugin-jsx-a11y to catch accessibility issues during code development.
Future Plans
We plan to commission an independent accessibility audit by a qualified third party in 2026. This will provide a comprehensive evaluation of our conformance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA and help us prioritise improvements.

8. Enforcement and Regulation
In England, Scotland, and Wales, the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the "accessibility regulations").
While Property Passport UK is not a public sector body, we voluntarily align with these standards and are committed to the principles of the Equality Act 2010, which requires service providers to make reasonable adjustments for disabled users.
